People have always said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but what if that is incorrect. What if a picture is worth a thousand emotions? These were the thoughts that were going through my head as I was editing cachoeira, and I realized that I was drawn to photography for this very reason. Photo’s have an amazing ability to invoke different emotions in different people. For example, cachoeira feels very depressing to me, and I think that it’s the lighting. I can remember the day it was taken, it was a beautiful day; the kind of day that guarantees that half of your shots will never be used do to the sunlight. Then in the corner where this waterfall was it seemed dark, and distant. As if God just forgot to light this part of the world; I can remember looking through the view finder and wanting to cry. This awkward description cannot come close to describe what I felt standing there, but I can still feel that sadness with no effort. Others have told me that they find peace in this same photo, and it makes me wonder what changes from my eyes to someone else’s.

It gives me great peace to believe that something that I have done could give someone joy, a since of peace, or even when necessary a feeling of depression and sadness. It is my belief that a great photographer can inspire great emotion, and it is my hope to be able to inspire you with an emotion.
